Even though Diablo 3 was announced during Sony’s PlayStation 4 event, today’s announcement is for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, the latter of which was never really officially announced until today. The current console generation version of Diablo 3 will feature an experience the company is describing as “custom-tailored for gamepad-driven action.”

For a while there it looked like Diablo 3 may have managed to somehow become a Sony exclusive, with the game so far only being announced by Activision-Blizzard for the PS3 and PS4. But that isn’t going to the case it seems, as now it’s been revealed that the game will be ported to the Xbox 360 as well.

We’ve been keeping an eye on the console version of Diablo 3 ever since it was first announced during Sony’s PlayStation 4 global reveal event. Nearly four months after its unveiling, Activision Blizzard is announcing the console version of Diablo 3 will be made available on September 3.

With the announcement comes a release date for the game on current gen systems, September 3rd for the PS3 and 360 versions. No word on when it might come to the PS4, but that’s probably because the system doesn’t have an exact launch date yet.

It is curious to note that the Xbox One isn’t mentioned here at all.  It seems odd that if the game isn’t a Sony exclusive after all, and  it is coming out for the 360 and PS4, it wouldn’t be released for the Xbox One as well. Perhaps the architecture of the system  is drastically different to make a port not worthwhile.

Diablo 3 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 will feature many of the additional content and bug fixes that has already been made available to the PC version of the game.
